The Carefully Calculated Job
From the start, Pantoja approached the MBA as both a technical and leadership platform. Outside the classroom, he served as vice president of the Investment Banking, Private Equity, and Venture Capital Club and founded the Dean’s Advisory Council, both experiences that expanded his network and deepened his engagement with the Gabelli School community. With mentorship from Dean Lerzan Aksoy, PhD, and other faculty members, he refined not only his finance skills, but also his ability to communicate his value with clarity and confidence.
One of his most important advantages was learning how to shape a clear professional narrative. With support from career advisors and faculty mentors, Pantoja sharpened his personal brand and articulated how his entrepreneurial leadership, problem-solving ability, and cross-sector experience could create value in corporate finance. He also approached each application with rigor, tailoring his materials thoughtfully rather than relying on a generic pitch. “You need to take every opportunity to showcase that you are a quality candidate long before you are invited to interview,” he noted.
Organization and consistency were central to his search. He built a disciplined process that combined targeted applications, alumni outreach, advisor check-ins, and informational conversations, all scheduled with intention. That structure helped him maintain momentum while continuing to refine how he presented his experience to employers. “You can’t expect exceptional results from generic materials,” he explained. “Every application has to clearly answer why you belong in that role.”
That preparation ultimately helped him secure his current position as a senior associate in Corporate Advisory Business Management at JPMorgan Chase, following a competitive interview process. For Pantoja, the outcome reflected more than persistence: it showed how a distinctive professional background, when paired with the right institutional support and strategy, can open doors in top-tier finance.
Pantoja’s journey highlights the value of strategy, discipline, and self-awareness in a competitive job search, while underscoring how the Gabelli School helps globally minded, high-potential professionals translate their experience into meaningful career outcomes.
